Have you ever resisted stepping into something new because you felt unqualified or uncertain? Maybe you thought, That’s just not me or I don’t have what it takes. It’s a common feeling, but what if saying yes to serving could be the very thing that transforms your life?

Many years ago, I felt unprepared when God nudged me to help Roger, a man with a passion for ministering to people living on the streets. At first, I resisted. I didn’t see myself as an evangelist, and honestly, the idea of working with people struggling with addiction and homelessness was uncomfortable. But God didn’t ask me to lead—He simply asked me to support Roger. So, I took a step of faith, and in doing so, I experienced something powerful. I saw prayers answered, people’s lives changed, and, unexpectedly, my own faith deepened.

Serving isn’t just about what we do for others—it shapes and strengthens us. When we step out of our comfort zone, we open ourselves up to seeing God work in ways we never imagined. The disciples had a similar experience when Jesus told them to feed a crowd of over 5,000 people. They had no idea how to make it happen, but when they obeyed and trusted Jesus, they witnessed a miracle (Mark 6:35-44).

When we serve, we follow the example of Jesus, who “came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45, NLT). Serving aligns our hearts with His, helping us see people through His eyes. It teaches us to trust God more deeply and reminds us that faith is not just about believing—it’s about doing.

If you’ve ever felt like you don’t have the time or ability to serve, consider this: God isn’t looking for perfect people—He’s looking for willing ones. What if your simple “yes” led to a deeper faith, unexpected joy, and a life-changing encounter with God?

This week, how can you step out in obedience? Whether it’s volunteering, offering encouragement to a friend, or helping a neighbour, take that step—you never know how God might use it to transform you.
